VIVAT TRUST Thistlewood Tower in Cumbria - December 2008 (Built circa 1332)
The story goes that In 1568 Richard Dacre was accused of plotting to aid Mary Queen of Scots, he attacked the nearby castle that ended with the battle of Gelt Bridge, in which his 3,000 strong army was defeated. Little is known of the subsequent history of the Tower, save that for much of the last 100 years it was used as farm worker accommodation before falling into neglect. Neglected it is no more! We settled in really nicely and used it for a base to eat, drink and be merry, some of the evidence is below for your amusement.
